Weekend Project: Get Your Bicycle Ready for Bike to Work Month!

By Chris Baskind in The Daily Footstep

Happy May Day — and welcome to Bike to Work Month! With warmer weather here, it’s a great time to give bicycle commuting a shot. You don’t even need to ride to work — just start using your bike for a few errands a week, and you’ll quickly see that a car is overkill for many short trips.

If you’re not comfortable doing your own maintenance, most bike shops will be happy to take your dusty ride and tune it up for less than the price of a tank of gas. Don’t have a bicycle? Check our tips on finding a great used bike without spending a lot of money. Then flip over to How to Bike to Work (Or Anywhere Else). National Bike to Work Day is Friday, May 15th. Let’s get pedaling!

How did bike to work month go? I live in Malmo, Sweden where about 30% cycle to work regularly. I hope you can help make other cities manage something similar.
