Standby Power Mode Is Costing You Money
By Chris Baskind in Home & Garden
That “switched off” TV or DVD player may actually be costing you money. Home electronics in standby mode can consume up to two- thirds of their normal operating power.
In fact, anything with a transformer can be a silent power vampire. One cheap solution is plugging electronic devices into inexpensive power strips. Just flip the off button when not in use. Or check out the new breed of smart strips. They sense when connected electronics are idle and shut down current to the outlet.
While they cost more than regular strips, you should recover the purchase price in power savings over the first year or so of its operation.
