Hooray! Companies Coming Clean on Cleaners

By Chris Baskind in The Daily Footstep

Want to do you and your family a favor? Start reading the label on household cleaners. That hasn’t been possible in the past — unless you’re a customer of Ecover, Seventh Generation, or some other consumer-focused company. You might be surprised to know that U.S. law doesn’t require manufacturers to state the ingredients of household cleaning products on the label. But the industry is beginning to offer a peek behind the chemical curtain, anyway. SC Johnson has kicked-off a new website called What’s Inside SC Johnson to list and describe the ingredients of brands such as Pledge, Windex, and Shout. Other manufacturers are promising to follow suit. So start reading, and find out what your family has been breathing all these years.

Ok....but they don't have all their products there. There was a picture of a Pledge bottle at the beginning but it's not actually listed. So, where's the Pledge?
  • I looked at the site. They don't have many products listed yet, but I'm impressed that they intend to list all ingredients in preservatives, dyes, & fragrances (many other companies are not) and that they are phasing out all phthalates.

Also, I was kind of confused because I always thought SC Johnson and Johnson & Johnson were the same company. I guess not?
