Get Bonus Points from the Easter Bunny with Natural Egg Dyes

By Chris Baskind in The Daily Footstep

Commercial Easter egg coloring kits are generally safe for most people. But if you’re sensitive to chemical dyes — or just want to have a little fun — why not try natural coloring this year? You can get some really interesting colors using inexpensive materials: wine for purple; spinach for green; and blueberries for blue. The process is similar to packaged dyes. What to get started? You’ll find complete directions and a big list of suggested coloring agents at Ask.com. Send us photos of your naturally dyed Easter eggs, and you might see them here on Lighter Footstep!

  • Here's another great page with natural dyes, many including common "weeds" or other wild plants: http://www.pioneerthinking.com/naturaldyes.html

Check to make sure they're not toxic first, though. I recognize many as safe from some suburban foraging I've done, but there are some there that don't look suitable.
