For a Springtime Holiday, Easter Ain’t All That Green

By Chris Baskind in The Daily Footstep

It’s hard to put much of a green shine on Easter. Like Halloween, Easter has come to mean a lot of plastic and candy of dubious origin. But kids like it — so the show must go on! With a little planning, you can at least mitigate Easter’s environmental impact. Start by saying “no” to unnecessary plastic bling. Go with baskets made from natural materials, stay away from novelty items, and collect plastic eggs for reuse next year. Artificial grass is a hazard to pets and wildlife, so use tissue paper, instead. Worried about child labor in the chocolate business? Go Fair Trade if you can afford it, or substitute cookies and small, non-candy gifts. Be creative, spend time with your kids, and have fun!
