There’s a reason you’ll never see an “I HEART Ironing” bumper sticker. It’s no fun. But cutting back on what you take to the Cleaners is yet another way to save a few dollars a week. Just as importantly, taking change of your laundry gives you control of the chemicals closest to your skin. It’s a simple thing to dump commercial spray starches for one you can make at home for pennies. Dissolve a tablespoon of corn starch in a pint of water. If you choose an organic starch, you’ll know there are no pesticides. Pour the mixture into a repurposed spray bottle, and you’re done. Shake before each use. It worked for your grandparents, and it will work for you, too.
