Used Is the Greenest Clothing Of All

By Chris Baskind in The Daily Footstep

Open practically any fashion magazine or catalog, and you’ll see a line of eco-friendly clothing. But whether it’s organic cotton or bamboo fiber, even the greenest fabrics require vast amounts of precious water and energy to bring to market. Want to really rock some earth-friendly duds? Buy used. “Pre-loved” clothing is a home run in for Sustainability — and your budget. eBay may be the world’s largest secondhand clothing store. You’ll probably have some local options, too: Freecycle, secondhand boutiques, and thrift shops. Earn extra green points by organizing a clothing exchange with friends, family, or schools!

I love searching 2nd hand stores for treasures and bargains, clothing or otherwise. If you too like 2nd hand stuff, you should be aware of the unintended effects of the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act on this small business category. Get informed and write your congressional representatives so that the fixes don't get lost in all the "big" legislation on the plate these days.
