Lighten Up! Choosing CFL Color Temperature

By Chris Baskind in The Daily Footstep

CFLs have come a long way in the past couple of years. But the energy saving bulbs work differently from their incandescent equivalents, and the quality of the light they radiate depends on how they’re constructed. In addition to the number of lumens — the amount of light CFLs produce — you’ll find that most are marked with their “color temperature.” If you’re used to cool white incandescent bulbs, choose a CFL with a color temperature between 4500 and 6000 K (Kelvin). For a warmer glow, go with a temperature range between 2700 and 3000 K. Want to learn more? Check out How to Live with CFLs.
