Let’s Save Water in the Garden this Spring

By Chris Baskind in The Daily Footstep

With unpredictable weather seemingly the rule these days, it makes sense to think water conservation as you plan this year’s garden. Make every drop count. Be prepared to utilize mulch, which holds moisture in the soil. Select drought-tolerant ornamentals. This might be a good year to set aside a section of your property for xeriscaping. Rain barrels are an inexpensive way to collect usable water for outdoor use. And consider container gardening, which is more water-efficient than traditional practices. Most importantly, have fun!

We use soaker hoses buried a few inches below ground in our vegetable garden and flower beds. Also a flow timer attached to the water spigot.
