Get That Bicycle Ready For Spring!
By Chris Baskind in The Daily Footstep
With the holidays behind us — and spring still six weeks away — this is the slow time of year for bicycle shops. That’s great if you’re a bike commuter wannabe, or are just looking forward to putting some miles under your wheels. You’re likely to find some deals on bicycle fix-up and accessories right now. Drag Old Faithful out of the garage and take it in for a quick once-over. Your preseason maintenance should include checking tubes and tires, adjusting brakes and gears, lubricating the hubs, chain, and bottom bracket, adjusting spoke tension, and replacing any sticky cables or worn hardware. We’ll see you in the bike lane!

Thanks for recommending this. Having worked in a shop it's good to see people in the slow times. Gives us more time to be personal. Also when you need fast service and we're busy you're not just another face, you are the person that gave us some business and sat down for a chat in the slow months. I never thought about actually recommending this. Cheers, good thought.
It's the perfect time to build a relationship with your local shop. Anyone who rides should do this, and knowing the folks on both sides of the counter works for everyone. When I worked in a shop, we always ran spring fix-up specials this time of year. It kept our mechanics employed, and the people who are first to get on their bikes during the year are usually the first ones to buy new ones at Christmas.
