Computer Ready for Retirement? Donate It!
By Chris Baskind in The Daily Footstep
So Old Faithful just isn’t cutting it anymore, and it’s time for a new computer. While it’s easier than ever to safely recycle electronic equipment, if your outgoing machine is less than five years old, consider donation. Who would want it? There are dozens of organizations that rebuild computers and send them out to people in need. You may have a local group similar to Free Geek. Computers with Causes is a nonprofit clearinghouse which accepts donations by mail. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency maintains a list of donation (and recycling) resources, and there’s always Freecycle and Craigslist. Keep eWaste out of the disposal stream — and help someone step into the Computer Age at the same time!
