This Winter, Air Out Your House — Sparingly
By Chris Baskind in The Daily Footstep
With colder weather at hand in the Northern Hemisphere, you’ll be keeping your home closed more tightly. It’s a good idea to open a window and allow fresh air to circulate, but be aware of the energy costs. Rather than leaving a window cracked all day long, open it wide for about ten minutes. That’s enough to do the job, and makes it less likely you’ll forget a full time energy leak. You’ll save heating costs and the emissions generated by all that wasted power.

Takes about 2 hours of airing for my bathroom to dry out, and it doesn't hurt to have other windows open for the whole morning. 10 minutes just wouldn't do it in my house. I just don't run the heating while the windows are open.

We're just talking about freshening the air. If you're trying to dry out a bathroom after a shower, it's going to take longer than ten minutes. Just close off the room to the rest of the house, and all will be well.
OK, I understand - change the air without cooling down the fabric of the house. Thanks.
