Safeguard Your Pets this Holiday Season
By Chris Baskind in The Daily Footstep
Holiday decorations add warmth to the home this time of year, but they may also pose a risk to your family pets. Secure exposed electrical cords to reduce shock hazards. Keep glass and painted ornaments high on the tree. Keep small decorations, bows, and metal ornament hooks out of reachs. Holly, ivy, and mistletoe are all toxic to pets. Be sparing when sharing leftovers. Keep skittish or poorly trained animals away from guests. And always keep your vet’s number handy, just in case.

Check with your Vet on holiday cover - you might need another number if yours closes. It's a 5 minute call and will save you immense stress should your dog gulp a pound of chocolates.
This is an excellent tip. Someone on Twitter mentioned poinsettias. They're not as toxic as the three plants mentioned in the article, but are also a hazard to pets and small children. Parents and pet owners should keep their local poison control center and emergency vet clinic numbers handy year-round.
