Don’t Trash That Pumpkin!
By Chris Baskind in Halloween, Holidays, The Daily Footstep
Just because Halloween is over doesn’t mean there’s not some use left for that slightly-worn jack o’ lantern. If you’ve got an active compost heap, that’s where it belongs. And wildlife consider leftover pumpkins both a tasty treat and handy shelter. Just remove the candle and leave Jack in a wooded area or vacant lot well away from homes.

A local farm here has a huge pumpkin patch. The leftover pumpkins are fed to the cows. I had no idea cows ate pumpkins until I saw this, but they do. It's a great fall sight to see the cows munching on the giant orange squash in the field.
