Convert to LED Christmas Lights

By Chris Baskind in Christmas, Holidays, The Daily Footstep

Two or three years ago, LED Christmas lights were a pricey specialty item. Now you can find them at your neighborhood big-box discount store — at prices genuinely competitive with traditional bulbs. That makes LEDs a no-brainer. In addition to using up to 60 percent less power than incandescent lights, LED bulbs will last thousands of hours longer. So safely dispose of that that tangled wad of old Christmas lights, and green-up your holiday decorations!

What's the proper way to dispose of christmas light strings?
  • Start by seeing if there's anyplace close to where you live by entering "Christmas lights" in the search box at Earth 911. If you see no local listings, this link will lead you to a company which accepts mail-in strands of lights for recycling.

Try to keep Christmas lights out of landfills -- the electrical insulation may contain PVC.
