Last-Minute Green Halloween Treats

Posted on 31. Oct, 2008 by Chris Baskind in Halloween, Holidays, The Daily Footstep

Halloween is here. Still wondering how to treat tonight’s tricksters? Skip the high fructose corn syrup candies and processed junk food. Organic fruit rollups, granola bars, nuts, boxed raisins, and veggie chips and fun and healthy alternatives. Or go for inexpensive, non-food treats, such as crayons, pencils, comic books, stickers and temporary tattoos. Have fun!

If in season in your area, go apple picking at a local orchard (organic or low-pesticide) and give out apples. Use Hallowing as an opportunity to educate your neighborhood's youth about eating local and ask the pointed question, “Does everything have to be sweet?” At the very least, give your guests a choice between an apple and a piece of candy.

There's something fitting about going out and picking your own apples this time of year (or buying a pumpkin straight from the field in which it was grown). Great tip.
